Take a Card and Decide Your Fate
THE FATES is a large scale in-person game designed to be played by 20-50 people.
Players are dealt cards from a Tarot-inspired deck and by constructing Poker Hands can attack other players, cast spells, or take on the powers of one of Tarot’s Major Arcana.
A number of different goals are presented to Players and once they assume the mantel of a Major Arcana, additional abilities and goals are generated.

Lead Game Design
Have players experience the sense of being powerful and capable of altering the world around them by deciphering puzzle-like mechanics.
Foster among the Major Arcana a sense of collaboration and separateness.

Mechanics
Players created Poker Hands from a custom Tarot-style deck of cards. Multiple copies of this deck allowed for a wide range of possible Poker Hands.
Players then had to negotiate and trade to achieve the specific Hands necessary to perform a specific action.

Playtest
Coordinated 7 playtest events with feedback sessions and A-B Testing to hone the design process.
Cultivated guest lists to ensure a mix of new and experienced players to tease out the impacts of game changes.
